You can't fit a 17 inch tyre to your 18 inch wheels.

According to VIDA, the size is different based on the brand of tyre.
I have 235/55R17 on mine See attached :- |

What size is printed on the black info label on the driver's door sill? It should state the size(s) fitted/available on your car when it was supplied.
Here's a photo of the one on my V70 showing my tyre size is 245/40R18 (the 17" one is the runflat):

Apologies fgor "dragging up" this thread again...
I seem to be experiencing problems buying tyres. Was informed at a recent interim service that the rear nearside tyre had a small split in the groove (see attached pic). Quite gutted really, as rear tyres have 6mm of tread and fronts have 5mm of tread! Questions are: - judging by the the pic of the split attached - would this warrant replacement right away? - I usually go for Pirelli Verde All Seasons (235/55/R17 V M+S). They work well for me...but NOWHERE in the UK seems to have them (that I can find) in the size/spec I need. Have Pirelli superseded the " Scoprion Verde All Seasons" with the Pirelli "Cinturato All Season SF 2" or something? Seems that Michelin Cross-Climates 2 are hard to come by too! Any help much appreciated!
