Change s40 1.6 d2 fuel rail/ fuel sensor advise

Hi there. My car is a 2012 1.6 D2 s40. My car is showing symptoms of a faulty fuel pressure sensor. Having a quick look, it seems the fuel rail is behind the engine lower down.

Has anybody removed the fuel rail? If so how hard is this to do?
Is it possible to remove the sensor only?

Can't find any guides or posts for removing from this engine.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I think I've got a similar issue to yours,

I've had a code reader attached and got the code P228C - fuel pressure regulator 1, control limit exceeded, fuel pressure low

While driving, if I reach 2000-2500 rpm, the engine starts to hunt a little (as though it's lack of fuel), then a warning comes up on the dash relating to Engine performance low (I cant remember exactly, and would need to take it for another drive to be sure of the wording)

As soon as I take my foot off the accelerator, the problem disappears.

Volvo want £240 + Vat for a complete fuel rail, including the sensor - and it won't be available from sweden til March.

But like you, I've just found the rail is buried deep under the windscreen side of the engine, and am wondering which direction to take in getting to the sensor.

My Volvo is 2013 D2 1.6 (though a v60)

Dingbro say the sensor isn't available separately, I'm waiting for Euro Car parts to come back with an price and avail,

I've also chatted to a Volvo tech, and he reckons the fuel rail pressure sensor is what to try first.

But if that's the case, it looks like a lot of parts need removed before there's space to access the sensor.

I just wondered if you'd had any luck with yours, and if so, what components did you remove on your way in?

You can replace just the sensor on the rail without removing rail. It's the same as Ford tdci or peugot hdi. On ebay they are about 30 at Ford dealer 80. Volvo is just replacing the rail with sensor for 270. Here is the video how to do it, it's not that hard.

when did you last change the fuel filter? And if it was changed recently was it the Volvo high capacity one with the blue dot on top? If not that is the first thing to do.

Hi, I am new to this forum, hopefully i am doing this correct. Just a quick question with regard to the above. I also have a fuel pressure sensor issue and again quote from Volvo is for a new rail including sensor. Now £361.00 +Vat

Did changing the sensor with a Ford part work ??

Yes, the sensor will work.

I don't know how sure you're about the sensor but I would also with fuel filter first as Clan suggested earlier. I had same issue with "low fuel pressure" errors and replacing fuel filter fixed the issue.
