Default Volvo c30 D2 EGR valve location (with pics)

I'm a bit worried about my newly bought c30 occasion. It's a D2 c30 from December 2010, with about 85K miles on it. Overall it's a well maintained car.

When driving away cold, it sometimes has some hiccups and also when cruising, I experience an occasional hiccup. For the rest, I find it a bit too fuel consumptie. This has led me to want to inspect the EGR system.

I wanted to take off the EGR valve, to check for coal and sludge. Now I think I've located it: on the right hand side behind the fuel filter, with two torx screws. (see pictures). I am pointing to the two bolts that I loosened.

I've loosened the two bolts, but I could not get the unit off. It was really stuck. Am I even looking at the right part? Or is this normal and should I give it a few brief hits with a wrench or a light hammer or so?

Thanks!
