Same goes for our D5s too I think, of course there are cars with better economy out there & maybe even similar performance but nothing that feels quite as solidly put together and planted as a Volvo.

I recently replaced my trusty V70 D5 with a V70R.
Range has decreased from ~650 from a tank to about 300... but the fun factor kinda makes up for it!

Starting with a full tank (ignoring a 30 mile journey to watching the surprisingly entertaining sight of Postman Pat’s Sherpa getting blitzed at Great Yarmouth Stadium) I refilled when I got home having towed my 1,500kg or so loaded caravan plus SWMBO and the two Peetlets, and at a steady 60 mph from Norfolk to just past Swindon I got just over 28.1 mpg. That’s not bad all things considered I think?

With no lights, bumpers or other distinguishing features, it was pretty hard for the kids to work out what anything was originally. I think I would cried a couple of tears if I’d seen a HA being blattered...
(there was an old Ford Zodiac ‘Classic’ stock car with literally 9 degrees of camber on the front left wheel. I suspect he gets through a couple of ball joints.)

638 from the last tank, fuel light just popped on and that was a couple of 150 mile steady runs on the motorway and the rest, just driving around the doors and a few days doing a 5 mile each way commute. Also runs on bog standard diesel.

Impressive mileage these!

I’m off to look at a 08 XC70 2.4 in Tuesday, would this do similar mileage to a tank? Or not as good with the 4wd gubbins.

..... Plus the Euro 4 is less economical than a Euro 3.
