Thanks Scott. I always remember seeing your car at a VOC meet, when Kevin owned it. It struck me as one of the nicest 240s I've ever seen and if I can get mine up to that standard I'll be very pleased. I love the colour - even now all scratched and faded it looks quite good, but I can tell that it will be amazing one the surface damage has been removed so we get a deep shine. John |

You're right Nick, it's currently pretty scruffy everwhere you look, so there is a lot of work to do to bring it up to the standard you achieved with yours. But, under all the dirt and surface damage, there is a nice car waiting to emerge! If you and Ste can get it looking as good as yours did, I'll buy you as many cocktails as you want!! I'll be doing some initial cleaning on it before you come down, to make it look respectable, but there are other priorites (see next post) and of course I want to maintain progess on the 164RS. So there will be plenty left for you to do on the GLT! I'm looking forward to your magic touch being applied to it! John |

Here's my thinking about the car...
The top, urgent priority is to replace cambelt, tensioner and waterpump. Gary, the previous owner, had the car two years and did not change the belt. His Dad owned it for several years before that, and Gary does not think he did the belt either! Therefore, I had a cautious drive home (3000rpm max) and this is top priority for next weekend. Also, the taligate wiring needs to be replaced. And there may be an additional electrical problem because although the indictors and brake lights work, the rear DRL/tail-lights don't. After those are done, I will do a major service and change all fluids. The car seems to have been well looked after through most if its life, but with little attention given to it in recent years (I have very little service history) so I'll need to catch-up on the lost maintenance. After that, there will be a serious rust-proofing job, and an assessment of what to do with the slightly grotty rear wheelarches. Then Steve and Nick will "detail" it to within an inch of its life! I might possibly fit some different wheels (I have Gallaxies or Polaris in stock to choose from) but in the main it will then just be used, enjoyed and maintained for a couple of years until my big project (the 164RS) is fully completed. And then...? Well, then will come the time to make the GLT fast... John |

Today I washed the car and made the Virgos look a bit better.
I removed the tacky "England" stickers I also did an unglamorous but vital job - freed off and lubricated the bonnet latch and cable that were trying very hard to seize up. John |

Those Virgos cleaned up nice!
As for those Polaris on Nicks car... although not my favorite, I go all weak in the knees when I see Polaris rims on late 240 Wagons! |

Excellent! looks ten times better de-tackified! And clean wheels always make the car. Freed off the axle mounts for me in preparation?!
