Exclamation Volvo V50 2.0D DPF & Engine System Service Warning.

Hi all,

Own an 08 V50 2.0D Powershift. Driving up to Yorkshire I notice the Soot Filter Full message displays (4th time today) usually stays on a minute then clears, stayed on for 5 minutes on the motorway (75mph, 6th gear), message cleared and immediately replaced by Engine System Service Required warning. I can only assume these two things are linked.

It's a Sunday so no chance of getting it into a garage and I'm 80 miles from home. Is it safe to drive home or will I cause some damage?

Checked the oil and it seems slightly just over the max level, the car was only serviced yesterday.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Currently stuck in Yorkshire as can't contact anyone on a Sunday!

Thanks

Just checked the fault code (Holding trip reset) and it's code 019.

If the DPF fluid was low, would that explain the issues it's having? Seems to fit everything by not completing a regeneration etc.

I'm pretty useless with these things!

Now have a new message!

"Book time for service" Showing Code 300 when do reset button.

Assume it means the garage didn't reset the service indicator... Well, I hope. Not having a good day!

Sorry if all seems abit disjointed but still stuck in Yorkshire trying to sort it before going home.

Got fault codes, cleared the messages and drove it back, luckily drive back absolutely fine. Ringing local Volvo specialists to book it in tomorrow to be checked. I suspect DPF fluid is low.

Also suspect the gearbox oil & filter (Powershift box) could do with a change. Under acceleration in lower gears in seems to over rev before an up shift. Not owned it long, rang dealer and says will cover cost of any work but I'm tempted just to reject the car... We shall see...

If they offer to fix the car, you have to accept that offer before you can reject it.
Let them try and fix it. If it needs a new DPF then you will save a fortune and probably have a car that will last for many years, opposed to possibly buying something else with worse problems.

There was a catch to the dealer's offer, when they say any repairs, they mean any repairs up to £550.

If it needs a new DPF, well, it's going to be well over £550 before they even look at the gearbox oil issue. Starting to feel I bought a lemon. Odd since it is only 1 owner and had full main dealer history.

Booked in tomorrow at Dave Penngley in Nottingham. Dealer actually wanted car back for his own mechanic but it's over 100 miles and didn't feel comfortable driving it that distance, 80 miles yesterday was dodgy enough.

Sorry to hear that. I hope it gets sorted for you.
Don't forget your consumer rights. If a fault becomes apparent within 6 months of purchasing a car, the fault is deemed to be present at the time of sale and the dealer is responsible for proving the fault wasn't present, or fixing it.
After 6 months, you are on your own. Do some homework on this, as his £550 limit may not stand up against your legal rights.

I'm trying to keep it all reasonable and friendly at moment... Saying that I've written down absolutely everything and saved all text messages, emails and screenshot all calls made and recieved.

I hoping it will just be a forced regen on the DPF and an oil/filter change for the gearbox. Cheap(er) & easy. I love the car, apart from these gremlins, it's a lovely car to drive and does everything I need it to do. I'll be sad if it's goes back to dealer.

Thank you for advice, I may give Citizens Advice a ring, just to find out exactly where I stand. Dealer is being reasonable so far, but we all know the horror stories.

a new dpf is only going to cost in the order of 250 - so your 550 limit is adewuate id say.
with any second hand car there will be niggles whihc need putting right, but the major bit should be ok?
