Default V70 2005 2.5T AWD - Testing the water

Hi All.
I am thinking of making a change and getting a 4.5l V8 5 series. (I'll still be running my 1971 145s)

It's a relatively high mileage of 165k but it's had the belts done at 150 and I just had a new clutch put in.

I think it's a relatively rare spec, active 4C suspension, 2.5T AWD. Plus family pack so inbuilt booster seats and fold up table, phone module, fancy audio package with digital hard drive in the boot, water repellent windows, xenon lights etc etc.

I was hoping to get in the region of £2.5 - 3k for it. Does that sound reasonable?

I suppose this is me putting up for sale, but i'm not sure! I should add some photos if that is what I'm doing.

No, it's a standard V70 with the 2.5 turbo engine. I think 210bhp? Maybe 207. Whoever bought it obviously wanted an R and specced as much as they could to match. It's the same suspension setup but with two instead of three stiffness settings.

Pictures Attached.
Last two show the two bits of damage on the bodywork, plus on the back passenger nearside of the bumper there's a scratch you can see in one of the other photos.

Don't mean to offend, just being constructive, but that seems quite high.

It has some fairly obvious cosmetic issues inside and out with high-ish mileage. Most people tend to go for the D5 for these load luggers. Plus points is that it's a manual though!

I think £1500-2000 would be more realistic. Saying that, you could try fixing some of the cosmetic issues cheaply yourself, ie. wheel refurb, polish the headlights, clean the leather, paintless dent repair on the wing to try and get closer to your original figure.

No offence taken at all, Steve!

I was under the impression that having the drivetrain and suspension from the V70 R added a great deal of value to the vehicle, above and beyond the standard V70 model.

I suppose it is probably not every prospective purchaser that wants high performance in an estate car!

But again, I don't really know whether that is of interest to most buyers, or whether you had already factored that in to you assessment..

I do know that I was happy to pay a premium to have a vehicle which, where necessary, could leave Audi quattros in the rear view mirror.

HO HUM a BOY RACER :-)

Well as we have been chatting I think Steve has got this to a T your car is not minted and it is NOT a V70R and yes some people like me are looking for that V70R AWD model.

Re your car you can pick up a much newer 06/07 D5 AWD in much better condition with all the toys for less than you are asking I looked at one yesterday and apart from a chip in the windscreen (easy repair and £75 excess from your insurance company with windscreen cover) it was minted and at a very very sensible price. Sadly it had the normal back seats I am really looking for the Family pack so If I can find one of them I would probably buy this D5 AWD instead of a V70R AWD and swap the back seats out.

Here is a very nice 06 D5 AWD Geartronic

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-V70...T/323386051909

that car will probably sell for less than £2,000

My read of all of this is you ARE or WERE just testing the water and your car is not really for sale unless you get your top asking figure. There are too many good cars about for you to get a premium price for a car that is not totally immaculate and has been cosseted by a Volvo enthusiast and with a full Volvo maintenance history.

You have the AWD drive train and many many Volvo's have that, in fact the newer D5 has a much better Haldex AWD set up than the V70R as the newer version starts of from a standstill as REAR Biased AWD system and has INSTANT reaction times as the Haldex pump is constantly running unlike the V70R AWD and your car which has a pump that only starts when it senses wheel slip and is FRONT Biased.

The 4C handling/suspension option is an EXPENSIVE nice to have thing, one V70R I looked at needed new front shocks...a quick £800.00 fitted and that was buying cheap Monroe shocks (the same ones that Volvo fit) at probably half the price that the Volvo dealer would charge and then having them fitted with all the necessary bit and bobs done, VIDA shocks set up, Tracking and Headlights set up as well.

IF you want to sell your car you need to get realistic and while you may think it is worth £XX it is only actually worth what someone will pay for her. At £1,500 I could be interested in coming to look at her :-). IF on the other hand you are just testing the water well I hope that you will now understand where the true value of this car is.

AND I am speaking not as just 'a commenter here' but someone actively looking and in the market 'just now' for a performance V70 AWD

kindest regards

I could of course be entirely wrong but I gather the market tends to favour a D5 or 2.4D V70's of this era and type of vehicle.

The drivetrain, spec and engine is an unusual combination though that may well appeal to someone. I don't think I've ever seen a V70 with a centre console full of buttons (rather than blanks)! On the flip side the added complexity of 4C shocks and Haldex 4WD system can be costly, though not as bad as it once was.

I think people who want the 'R' find the premium acceptable, as it's more than just the suspension on offer; ie. 300bhp, lowered suspension, different styling, wheels, suspect different antiroll bars etc.

I am sure you are right Steve. Seems like a sensible analysis. I've had a good offer for part exchange so I might just go that route if I do make the move.
