For what is worth, just now on a V70 2003
I took out both fuses,
folded both mirrors flat,
turned on ignition
pressed the switch a few times
turned ignition off
replaced fuses
problem solved and the boss happy!.

Thanks to those who posted original

Default folding mirrors out of synch

Tried all of the usual mirror fuse removals etc on my 2004 XC90 then did this and it worked (I was amazed):

Try performing a reset of the UEM (Upper Electronic Module), this controls the door locks and window operation:

- Close all of the doors and bonnet.
- Key in position II engine not running.
- Hold both the driver window and passenger window switches in the driver door panel in the closed or up position for 5 to 8 seconds after the windows are closed.
- Release buttons.
- Remove the ignition key.
- Operated the remote twice. lock/unlock lock/unlock.

1. Remove the fuse for R/H door mirror
2. Push folding button. L/H door mirror only should now fold - push as needed until both mirrors are in same "plane"
3. Switch off ignition - remove the fuse for L/H door mirror
4. Switch on ignition - push folding button - unsurprisingly, nothing happens, but with all this computery around, is it possible it might have re-set a memory somewhere?
5. Switch off ignition - replace both fuses
6. Switch on ignition - deep breath - push folding button - VOILA - both mirrors move in sync!

For a few moments, switched on and off, folded and unfolded, and so far so good!

Thanks to the contribitors before me - I hope this may help others after me
