I took the engine bay floorpan off for a checkover yesterday and have found this pipe leaking oil onto the inner surface of the pan (as shown in the pics). The oil leak seems to be coming from around that orange gasket you can see in the pics. Can anyone tell me what the pipe is/does and the part I need to get if tightening the jubilee clip doesn't stop it? TIA

Is that the pipe that runs from back to front under the engine? If so then it the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler (or it is at least on my 163bhp one).
you may be better of loosing the jubiilee clip first and pushing the 2 parts together before tighting it up.

yes I think it's that pipe but why would it leak oil? Shouldn't it carry air?

yes thats the turbo pipe from turbo to intercooler . Its not a serious problem , if a problem at all , some cars are just a stain and some are a bit damp . It is where the crankcase fumes condense the oil out in the pipe and this plastic housing and joint is pure Ford , pre 2004 D5 had a high quality silicon rubber hose doing that job and that never gave a problem ..
you might have a problem fixing that you will have to take the pipe off the turbo and lower it down , you see a 7 mm bolt there , thats simply a self tapping screw going through the two plasic pipes to prevent them blowing apart under turbo pressure . Ford engineering at it's best :-)
You might take it apart and clean all the oil off with some brake cleaner and reassemble a bit better, but there are rarely completely dry ..

Thanks Clan, so it's nothing to worry about then? Just out of interest is it possible to retrofit the old d5 silicone hose in its place?

not a problem that will get worse .. you could replace that silencer box with some kind of silicon hose from a motorsport outlet if you found the size of the turbo outlet and plastic pipe ... and whether it was 90 degree bend or something different ..

Would replacing the silencer box make the turbo whistle more audible internally? Has anyone done this on a 185, if so what hose did you use and where did you source it please? I can't find anything from Forge.
