Default Front discs & pad change

My front discs & pads needed changing, so after getting various quotes ranging from £560 to £230, I went for the cheapos.

This was from National tyres (using their online 20% off brakes voucher).

All was well for about 6 weeks, then a noticeable intermittent click started when I pressed the brake pedal, which gradually became more constant on braking.

Took it back and they immediately said that it was the aftermarket pads not sitting properly (some clip fractionally out) but was not dangerous - anyway, to cure it they offered to buy Volvo pads (£90) and change them.

This was done, with full wheel balance free of charge and everything has been fine since - good service - very impressed.

Yes, good service.
Just slightly off topic, I was reading on another forum about fitting ceramic brake pads. They are supposed to produce much less brake dust. Has anyone tried them?

Tried them on my old Saab Aero. They do produce less dust as they are a lot harder, but it comes at the price of having to really get them hot to get the benefit out of them, having to brake harder when cold (plus greater wear on the disc). Normal day to day driving I'd say not to bother for the sake of that bit of extra wheel washing...
