cluncking when setting off
hi guys
since i got minstral off andi its always had a clunck when you set off i'm not sure if its from a dead bushing or from something in the drivetrain. i know that one part of the rear end has been polybushed but i wouldn't think it was that unless the bolt and nut have come loose. So if anyone has any ideas or if this is a common problem could you let me know. thanks chris |

It could be a worn universal joint on the prop shaft, or a very worn splined sliding joint, or loose bolts on the gearbox or axle flange, or a very worn axle with gross backlash, or of course a suspension or reaction arm bush.
Don't confuse it with the noise the handbrake shoes often make when pulling away. They are meant to be slightly loose on their pivots, so sometimes make a clonk as they resume their neutral position after being released. |

Hi,
Likely to be the rubber mount for the drive shaft as they wear out pretty quickly.. Des. . .

Do they? I've never had one wear out in 380,000 miles. I don't think it can be the cause of a clunk on take-off. It would have to be so grossly worn for the shaft to touch any metal it would be thrashing around like mad and very dangerous.
Anyway a careful check from end to end should pretty quickly pinpoint the source. |
