Thank you.

In any case, I also believe that we have a very but very rare version.

However, I think the volvo 144 are little recognized as valued historical cars.

In my particular case, I will not sell because it has much sentimental value.

Is a 1973 144GL rare as well?

I'm tempted to buy this one

I have the impression that are most common.

The GL version of 1971 and 1972 were special versions and 140 B20E engine used, the same that equips the volvo 1800ES.

That looks nice. In Europe the 144GL was quite rare, even when they were new. I think the price was considerably above the DL version and, at least for conservative UK car buyers, I suppose the new-fangled fuel injection put some people off.

I might be wrong, but I don't think orange was available on the GL is European markets, so perhaps that's a colour choice unique to certain markets. (But, also worth checking whether it's still wearing its original colour).

Try to find out where it was built. Volvo had a factory building 140/160s in Australia, but I think those cars had right-hand-drive pattern wipers by 1973. This car has left-drive wipers, so it may be a Swedish built import - perhaps the Australian factory didn't build the GLs?

If that's as good as it looks in the photos, and the price is right, you should give in to the temptation and buy it!

John

just a couple of notes from my memory. the black leather was only available on the 140s and i think for a little while it was the only colour available (i think beige was 73 but i´ve definitely seen a beige leather 144.) the rarest of the rare is the early 1971 142 gl that came with sunroof and overdrive. seems a lot of these cars were the metallic blue-grey. i´ve owned a late 71 which was white and had od but not the sunroof. jj (who is restoring the 165 in another thread) has owned a late 71 that was the blue grey and had a sunroof but no OD (incidentally the engine from that car went into my amazon, with the injection and the car was fitted with the b20b and i think it ended up in the uk.) as for rarity, i think all 71-73 gls are uncommon and even the 74 gls are less common although many more cars were injected in 74 (in au almost all 140s were injected in 74 from memory.) my curiosity is the centre panel in the interior of the portugese 142 as it´s not factory as far as i´m aware. was it a dealer option in portugal?

Hi,

My car is a 144 (not a 142) GL with sunroof and overdrive (M41 gearbox). Also, he have 2 aditional front lamp (it's serie).

The central panel it was a put by my grandfather very soon (1975 or 1979)

The original radio not have tape for K7. So this central panel had a old tapes radio. I still remenber that tapes.
Some years, that radio was replaced by this one, with K7.
