Default Electric window issue

I have a 2005 1.8 S40.

My front electric window has suddenly started playing up. When i press hold the button the window goes down a bit and back up a bit. (stutters up and down) To get it all the way down/up i have to keep tap pressing the button.

So it is still working but not 100%. It also doesn't make a nice quiet smooth sound unlike the other 3 windows.

Do i need to replace the motor? If so is that easier enough to do or do i need to replace the whole door inside like being sold here... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=270902136027

Thanks
Nick

Does it close upon one pull? Can be it isn't calibrated.

Close the window and hold the switch in the "UP" position for about 3 seconds. It should go "click click" (or so) and you should be able to see the window move a tad.

Try this first.

Sounds like a water ingress problem (shorting) in either the switch itself or the motor (door).

Now I've said the above I have just jogged myown memory and there is door connections modification bulletin, have a search V50 door connection or something similar. This could be a starting point. Does the elec windows and central locking all work okay?

The modification (service bullitin) is to do with the connections in the front doors, I meant to ask wether the electric mirror and central locking worked in that particular door your having problems with, although the connections problem doesn't always affect all the systems in that particular door anyway.

Still worth a seach and see if you can find the thread I'm on about. I'll have a look later for it too when I've got a bit of time and drop a link back here for you.

Have a quick look at these links:

LINKY-1

LINKY-2 It is worth a read through the whole thread but still not the thread I was looking for.

I'll keep looking...

On looking over a few other threads then I have found it there is a technical bullitin over the issue (if it is the connectors in the door causing your problem) and there is a recall in place for the changing of the connections in the door from standard connectors to gold plated ones that cures a number of door related problems.

Best advice is to check and see with a main dealer if your car is too early (as these didn't have the connections at all and didn't suffer from the connectors problem) or if you have an affected vehicle and the recall is outstanding or not.

If you want to read more threads then type 'gold terminals' in to the search on this site and you will get a good few results. I was looking for a particular one which gave the technical bullitin number but can't find it.
