Did you touch one of your needles also? I've been there and accidentally nudged them :s

Is there a way to reset the needle position like on other cars?

Sorry for delay, OH has been hogging car for last couple of days.

Mine is a 2.0d SE with 6 speed box & 17" tyres. Just been for a ride down road and at an indicated (by speedo) 40mph in 3rd it was doing 2550rpm.

When compared with a satnav, my speedo is usually a bit slow (though no worse than any other car I've had) so perhaps 2600 might be more accurate (but of course would VenomS40's speedo be any better ?). No real point trying to assess against satnav - they have their own errors unless you're doing a significant distance at steady speed.

As I think another poster has said, the ratio between indicated mph & rpm should be fixed - the speedo doesn't run off a 5th wheel but from a gear wheel at back of gearbox.

If clutch is slipping, engine might show higher rpm for same speed or if one or other instrument is faulty error could be in either direction.

Yours seems to be more around my reading too and yours is a 2008 too. Also I have 18" alloys so this may also chuck it out.. Its ok the car runs fine its just me worrying too much lol

Unless the speedo has actually been calibrated for wheel size (& tyre aspect ratios are usually chosen to obviate this) the car doesn't really 'know' what's happening after the gearbox.

Rev counter is driven by (or more likely sensed at) mainshaft of engine & speedo is really measuring gearbox output shaft speed. Ratio between them should be fixed by gear ratio - although either instrument might have an error. Clutch slip is always a possibility but (a) that would always result in a lower speedo reading (or higher rpm) than expected and (b) once it starts happening the clutch plate burns out very quickly and it's not a smll you'd ever miss.
