Freezing outside?
No it's not, but my car certainly thinks it is.
My 05 plate v50 is reporting a temperature of 1 degree outside going up to a max of 4. I'm pretty sure it's more like 20 degrees. Any ideas? Thanks..... |

Corroded door harness, all too common
That harness has been updated, the new one has gold plated corrosion-resistant pins, not cheap though. If you gain access to that harness "you'll have to take the door panel off first" you might find it covered in greenish rust, try cleaning that off the pins and it should help, btw, the blue wire is for the temp reading, it leads to that nipple protruding from the under the side view mirror. If you do a search for "door harness" in the S40/V50 section you'll get loads of info on this issue. I'm interested in knowing whether that temp reading from the mirror affects climate control, have you tried using your A/C or heater lately?are they working the way they should?

I've read things about it affecting a/c but have had no such problems.
Thanks for the info. I'll not be getting the work done any time soon unless it's under warranty I think. |

Picked my 2006 V50 on Saturday from our local Volvo dealer and noticed the outside temp reading on the display was -4 although it was a bright sunny day. As it was new thought I'd have a play with the controls and notice no hot air coming from the AC as well. Rang the dealer and I'm arranging to have it looked at by the service team. The service manager did say he thought they were related issues.
The temp did display properly when I took it for a run on Sunday and the AC appeared to work correctly after that. Now have AC working properly but apparently it was -2 today according to the display but no sign of a gritting wagon anywhere. Hoping this isn't a sign of things to come and just a small glitch. Other than that very pleased with the car...... |

Actualy corrosion wasnt the problem it was "fretting" when two contacts move and wear and generate dirty dust to break down the contact ... The green stuff is actualy a waterproof grease which was put on as the first recall . it wasnt very succesful though ...

Actually it's a 5 minute job. I've done it yesterday in mine 05 V50. All you need to do is take off a rubber part between the passenger door and vehicle body, disconnect cables spray it and put it back. See attachment with volvo instructions |

Excellent stuff! thanks for sharing can't wait till this affects me so that I can do this or I might as well pull the harness out now just to check up on the pins... preventively that is.

My car went back to dealer this morning for this very problem.
Hoping its a quick and permanaent fix as it appears to be affecting my AC as well. Edit 1:rafaldesign - Great document....feel like emailing it to the service guys at the dealer. Edit 2:rafaldesign- Where did you get the document - are they availbale in a library online?? Last edited by gilgamesh1066; Jun 24th, 2010 at 12:12. |
