Mike, I also read that article in this week's AutoExpress as we subscribe to the magazine.

Let me put it this way, for 40+ weeks of the year we hardly ever need the SatNav. I have never really encountered a traffic jam in The Scottish Borders, it's fab! But when we travel to The Alps we will be taking our Garmin unit called Lottie (voice recognition so she has a name to wake her up and have a conversation with her). Until the Jaguar system has proved itself I will not be taking any chances.

Best wishes,

Arianne

Great minds !
I also run a Garmin in parallel with the Sensus. Particularly useful on the Garmin is the proximity searching for favourites. Also (for where we live) the altitude display. It's interesting comparing the routes they both suggest. Also the (lack of agreement in) reporting of traffic problems. I have been on the M6 approaching 'known' traffic congestion and sometimes Sensus tells me of the problem, sometimes it is Garmin. Rarely both together.
Volvo are moving to a TomTom-based system in 2019.

Finally.

I've never used my Volvo Sat Nav. Firmly wedded to my TomTom. HD Traffic rules. It found a green lane route to get me round an accident on the main road on the coast of Wales and saved me an hour or so of sitting in traffic a couple of weeks ago and yet another A21 road closure on Friday.

I have my TomTom permanently mounted in my XC60.

Likewise, I feel a sense of friendship with Lottie, she is part of our family. Hence, she will travel again with us on our family holidays in pride of place on top of the central dashboard area....

..... speaking of which, the faux leather wrap and 'straight as a die' double stitching on the dashboard of the F-Pace is a joy to behold, as is the configurable mood lighting. The former was 'free' (not really, I know) and the latter just £200 - possibly the best £200 optional extra I have spent, as you will discover when I get some pictures of the cabin at night.

The electronic reclining rear seats (a £150 option that evokes the spirit of the late 1990's Ford Mondeo due to the appearance of the Mondeo rocker switch from the original Ford parts bin, I kid you not) is a 'Jury's out' item. The adjustment of the rear seats is noticeable but not huge. I think that assessment will require some longer-term testing while Mrs A drives down the A1M

The £50 option for rear seat release levers from the rear boot was a good investment. Stand by the tailgate, pull levers and the seats automatically fold forward. Fab! £50 - worth it if only when one comes to sell her on for an extra item on the 'fully loaded' list!

Regards,

Arianne

Default Car insurance...

..... Direct Line was the best quote at £184.80 (Mrs A and me) or £323.40 including our 24yr old son. Went for the latter with the lad chipping in 50% of the difference for good measure.

Whichever way you cut it, £323 fully comprehensive cover on a 3.0d V6 300bhp F-Pace with a 24yr old on the policy is amazing

Worth checking Direct Line - none of the other quotes from the online supermarket price comparison websites were as competitive. Didn't try NFU as they don't have an online option, you have to call and I don't have time. Maybe next year I will check them out.

Tomorrow I haggle the best deal I can from ALA on the telephone! I'll update this thread with the results so we can all benefit from our collective learning.

From our experience Direct Line are only cheaper during the first year, renewal time they put in a massive price increase. So be prepared to shop around come renewal time.

Looks very nice in the photos so far.

I can't remember the last time I renewed with the same insurer two years running. All of the premiums rise astronomically so I assume they accept the loss of people like us as a price worth paying when some folk just let their policies roll over?

The good news for me is that, although Direct Line only operate auto renew, my Amex card (1% cash back on all purchases which adds up nicely to a meaningful reward cheque every year) expires later in 2017 . So they won't be using that card then! Plus the backup of a reminder from Siri just in case.

Nigel, I am indeed doing the GAP thing tomorrow. I have two quotes for the best type of policy which is the return to original car, as brand new (or as close as they can get). The cheapest quote for 5yrs cover (to match my free five year service plan) was £343 from Total Loss. But I would prefer ALA although their best premium is over £400. So I am going to call ALA tomorrow as they have a price match + further 20% discount promise and it's worth a go. My target price is therefore £274 so wish me well. The dealer came in at £499 for four years and it was only Return to Invoice cover, which is okay but not quite as good.

I will update folk on my haggling results tomorrow.

Have a nice Monday.

Arianne

Tootling along at around (+/-) the speed limit for a country road, a "private reg" F-Pace started aggressively tailgating me yesterday No idea of the engine type or trim level. I should have just slowed down and let him/ her overtake I suppose. Sorry, I didn't. I put the foot down in the bends and left them well behind .
