Automatic Gearbox Compatibility
I have a late Xc90 but am wondering if it is the same gearbox fitted to most later Volvos but with perhaps different ECU and or fittings e.g. transfer box?
Has anyone tried using box from different model Volvo or even brand such as Saab with any success? Google tells me that for all uses the gearbox has same ratios and also valve body looks same so am guessing should be able to use box from another model of Volvo and swap over the ECU and any brackets needed? |

You must get a gearbox from another AWD car as you need the transfer box drive.
Whilst the ratios maybe the same - the final drive are not - one from a petrol car would not be suitable. Not sure if the final drive differs between 60, 70 and 90 models. You should retain your ECU. I have successfully dropped a number of gearboxes into XC90s from different year and model Volvo cars but always the earlier 5 speed AW55.
