Gear selector reduced function
Hi fellow volvoists after a 3 year gap I've brought a 2004 v70 auto d5 with 183,000 miles on the clock..its in fantastic condition, deep red paint and not a scratch..you may of seen it for sale on eBay located in Southwell Notts.
Any way it was listed with having the gear selector reduced function problem message on the cim..which with a bit of digging on here pulled up reference to gear selector module being duff, symptoms are the message and no lights near the gearstick and winter mode not functioning..I have selector lights and my winter mode button is working but I have the message and the annoying red triangle that won't go away ..I have a cheap obd11 reader that I will try to c,ear the codes with later today ..just wondering if anyone has seen this before I'm presuming that it's not a fault that's been fixed and just not cleared as it was part exd for this reason ,if the dealer is to be believed but he was a very nice bloke (delivered the car to me) and all his reviews for customer service and after care are brilliant..I doubt I will get that though as it was a spares or repairs part ex..many thanks will add pictures and start a project thread when I don't have the boy with me |

Is the gear selector module part of the TCM (Transmission Control Module), a separate part or just another name for the TCM?
You're not speaking of the PNP switch, are you? Those are reported to foul up and require cleaning. A good read with a VIDA likely is necessary. |

I believe we did see this one on ebay, it was a bit far for us to go and look at though. Did you see the gold S80 on there @695 with 190k? we bought that one. (similar deal, sold through a finance company as a trade sale so no warranty "express or implied" haha). Sounds like both you and I shall be looking into a VIDA purchase in the not too distant
Good call on the PRN switch too, they seem to go flaky on most higher mileage autos and a clean can bring them back well. Does it always crank in P or N, or does it sometimes require a "wiggle" of the selector before the starter will kick in?

Haha yeh I think it could be a little inconvenient to share. I'll probably spend the extra tenner and get one of CheshireD5's tested/working units as we're not too far from Crewe although I go there much less now.
It'll go nicely alongside my Lexia/Peugeot Planet and Nissan Consult on a dedicated old laptop. I will say though, other members would be welcome to come by our house and have codes read/cleared once I get a kit set up. (that goes for PSA and Nissan as well if anyone's in desperate need)

Yes a darker colour (I like the blues and charcoaly shades) would be nice but at the price & having seen the car I couldn't really say no! I may have seen that red one too, was it listed in Derby?
How are you getting on with the gear selector thing, did you get a chance to pull the codes?

Hello no codes yet I e just done the passenger side brake second hand disk and good used pads £5 .stripped the caliper down greased it all up and it done the job no more melting wheel paint..but still have the dreaded brake squeal must be the drivers side ..there's nothing not functioning on the shifter front everything works just have the message ..I did take the pen holder out to swap it as the rubber bit was missing and noticed a pool of coffee down there so hopefully it will just need the contacts cleaning..il see if I can read any codes later after a spell out of the sun

My 2002 S80 T6 is throwing a code of 0094. No letters were a part of this code. The car also said the gear selector function reduced...any help on this one?
