2022 XC60 R Design Questions/Pic Request
Hi All
New to the forum as I am close to hitting the button on an order for a facelift XC60 T6 R Design with 21" Alloys. I have a test drive booked in this Tuesday before I go ahead and I have been doing some reading up the last couple days which has brought up some questions, I'm hoping you guys can help out: - It would appear that on all new models there will be no paddle shifters, is this correct? I always use paddle shifters in my cars so it's a bit disappointing. I don't believe it's possible to change manually via the gear selector either? - No more drive mode selector. I asked the dealer and they said whilst the selector has gone you can still change modes using the infotainment screen. Can anyone clarify if this is the case, is there a comfort and sport mode for example? - No Apple Car Play? Must admit once you get used to having this it's a pain to go back, I believe this is due to software glitches and may be updated soon but I haven't been able to get any more info? Doesn't sound promising with no timeline - Ability to connect phone/play music via USB. Is it true that whilst you can plug your phone in to charge there is no USB interface for playing music etc? - Google System. Anyone that is using this, what are your thoughts? How does the overall system work vs say the latest BMW's, especially with regards to voice commands such as setting temperature in the car etc. Is this even possible on this? - Has anyone taken delivery of a new R Design yet? If so could you post some pictures, particularly if you have the 21" Alloys? It's hard to find real life pics. Cheers! |

I ordered the same car as you back in June. Due for delivery within the next couple of weeks. The 21” alloys whilst may look good, make for a very hard ride unless you spec the air suspension. Personally the 19” alloys look better in person and are included within the R Design trim.
Manual gear selection is available via gear lever however I’m unsure on the paddles I don’t believe they are included on any 2022 model. Wireless Apple CarPlay will be added in a software update later this year so I wouldn’t worry about that. I believe wired CarPlay works now however I’m sure someone will confirm this. The Google system will only get better with time as more updates are pushed out. There will be teething issues at the start but this is all part of being an early adopter. The drive mode button is now not available however the drive modes are still there within the centre display. More will be added later this year apparently in another software update. |

Gearshift paddles were last available in MY20 and deleted for MY21 onwards.
Agree with griffin447 about 21" alloys - they look good but the ride on standard suspension will be firm. Air suspension will help if you want to go with the 21" rims. Apropos drive modes, Volvo information is inconsistent. The manual claims there are comfort, dynamic and off-road modes but in this 'latest information', also from Volvo, the only extra mode available is Off Road: https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support...odel-year-2022

Hi, I’ve got a 22my XC60 Rdesign B5P, definitely no paddles on the steering wheel. The only drive mode that is changeable is to ‘Off Road’ and that is selectable in the google interface, rather than on a click wheel as in previous models. I’m not sure though if T6 models are different. It’s USB C in the arm rest cubby hole and as of yet i haven’t tried connecting a phone or iPod via this connection and Car Play definitely isn’t in these models yet but is coming late this year apparently. The google system is good, voice commands work well. Only frustration is that you can’t control the DAB radio on it. Also speed camera alerts are missing from the google maps now. There also a lot of features missing from the Volvo App like the driving journal and the ability to send locations from the app to the vehicle navigation. Play store apps are limited too. However mine drives better than my T5 V90CC, and there’s no problem with the Sensus system having a mind of its own and the terrible Volvo navigation has gone.

I think the only way you find out what you actually get on the car is to wait until it’s actually arrived! I was told by Volvo no BLIS on V90 CC but dealer has confirmed with them it is included. Now I am told no Drive Modes (see the helpful link above) but latest Price list (just released) said it has Drive Mode and the Manual also says it does. Who knows!!

I took delivery of an R-Design Pro about 3 weeks ago. The ride is great, but I’ve come from a BMW Z4 and prior to that an M3, so the Volvo is on a different level of ride comfort!
I can confirm there are no paddle shifters, but there is a ‘M’ option on the gearshift selector so assume you are able to manually change by bumping selector forward/back, but haven’t tried it. There is no drive selector beyond ‘Off-Road’, and no carplay. Although I understand both are due later this year in forthcoming software updates. As someone else has said, there is a USB-C connector in the centre cubby, although there is nothing obvious in the menus to indicate any music options when it’s connected, the only music options that show are dab, bluetooth and any music apps you’ve downloaded such as Spotify (which is great via the google interface). So I guess it may just be used for charging, although you’d expect it to be able to play music too, so maybe I’m just missing something in the menu? I had a 2019 Z4 prior to this, and the google system in the xc60 is nowhere near as polished as the BMW system, although it will only improve as time goes on. I definitely miss the i drive wheel for navigating menus! I’ve attached the only picture I have of my car so far, but can get some more tomorrow if there was something specific you wanted?
