As people said above. Also, may I stress, that it is very important it is to make sure that the gearbox is supported properly. Not too low and not too high. If there is a lot of stress in the mount, then the last bolt will be harder to remove and with the potential to damage the threads for good.

We managed with a friend. This time used a better jack (air filled cushion style) and some air wrench. It got the job done.
Thanks for everyone pitching in. Saved me about 150€.

Having had no reversing lights for a couple of weeks now, prior to which they had worked intermittently, I was really pleased to find gatso's instructions on replacing the switch. However prior to going for this remedy I checked the bulbs were OK, they were and then when I put the car into reverse the lights came on. I did this several times and they continued to work. Apart from the bulbs I hadn't touched anything. I'm guessing that the switch is OK at the moment. If the lights fail again are the switches know to develop intermittent faults or could there be some wiring failure somewhere? Any known chaffing points? Areas for kinks?

Basically in my case, it was working if I pushed the gearbox to reverse hard and kept pressing. If I just switched reverse, it didn't work or it worked for a second (I installed parking sensor so beeping is the indicator).
