Default continental driving !!!!

evening all, am thinking of going over to France in may to a camp site with friends of ours, He drives a Merc (sorry for swearing ) and I will be in my trusted volvo v70...he mentioned beam deflectors because of driving on the opposite side of the road, he just,s flicks a switch and his adjusts, have seen the ones on the bay that deflect the beam, are these any good ?? or should I not bother, because others say they have never bothered with them..I know its law over there..but just thought I would ask because some of the forum members drive over there often.. ......thanks

john

Default driving in Europe

I do a lot of European driving and used all kinds of gizmos and ended up going into the local parts store or sunday market spending less than £10 on a set of beam deflectors

It's mainly the glass on our cars that differs from the EU variants and nothing to do with the bulb unlike a more rounded headlamp unit so the Ebay gizmo may or may not do anything. What I did do and yet to use was pop into a French scrappy and got a set of EU lamps with the intention of stopping at the port and simply swapping the entire unit over

Aw, just use black tape. Simple, cheap and it works. Regards.

Either use black tape, as Billb suggests or get a set of stick on beam deflectors like the ones sold by halfords etc. Stick on deflectors are approved for use on the continent anyway

Not sure about the idea of using a set of EU lamps, good idea in theory but you would at least need to make sure that the beam is adjusted correctly, so that you don't dazzle other road users. At least with beam deflectors you justnstick them in the right place on the lens.

Suppose it depends on how much continental driving you intend doing.

thanks rwd, will be the first for me, as with black tape it must have to be in the correct position, and with the stick on deflectors seems the best solution I think...but if I like the south of france it will be alot more driving over there, lol

Do you still need yellow bulbs in France or have they stopped that now

yellow bulbs are not required now but a few other things are: full set of bulbs, triangles, high vis jacket and first aid kit please remember this is the absolute minimum requirement for the car, u will also need both parts of your licence and insurance certificate.
