Default Loss of fuel pressure over night

'Ey oop, as they say around here. Sometimes.

While the car is parked for a length of time, the fuel pressure drops. Starting the car in the morning requires about ten off'n'on's to pressurise the fuel enough.

What could be causing this. I can't find any leaks, so ... is there a one-way valve or something? Or might the pump have bit the dust? Does the pump incorporate a valve of some kind, to maintain pressure when switched off?

Anyone got any advice, please?

The most common fault is the Fuel Pressure Regulator which is situated under the fuel rail on the 1999 model but at the end of the rail on the 2000- models.

The pressure in the rail for starting and running is around 52psi but when turning off the engine the rail should hold the pressure for 20 minutes and and down to 29psi.

If it loses more pressure then replace the FPR........As it runs ok after starting then the fuel pump should be ok.

Another tell tale is take off the plastic pipe going to the FPR and smell the end if petrol smell then the diaphragm has gone and is leaking the fuel.

The FPR is under the rail between 3 & 4 cylinders.
