Default 1st Issue after 35k miles. Stalled - fuel pump relay?

Happy New Year all.

Happened this Monday at a roundabout/intersection on M180 somewhere. Luckily the traffic was very light but it was chucking it down, dark and I was smack bang in the middle of the lanes right at the front at the lights, not the best place to be stranded.

It cut out just as reached the lights and wouldn't start again for what seemed an eternity. Managed to get her going again and completed the remaining 100 miles or so with fingers and everything else crossed. The car is stored for the next few months as I'm having a break from work but when I get back I will start with replacing the fuel pump relay as this seems to be a common problem.

I think she knew I was leaving her for a couple of months and was letting me know her thoughts..

If you are just going to throw parts at it and hope, the standard list for that symptom is fuel pump relay, crank position sensor and ignition module.

The fuel pump relay can be eliminated as a first cause if you are CERTAIN that when the engine died, the tacho immediately dropped to zero while the enige was still turning. Otherwise, just do the lot.

Like he said.

In my experience stalling out when hot has been due to a failing crank position sensor (the insulation on the cable breaks down) and failure to start from cold has been the fuel relay. I’ve never had the ignition module go. That’s just my limited experience though

Thats a great start, thanks. I cant say for certain if the revs dropped immediately. I'll start with the crank sensor and fuel relay.
