Default Tailgate hight

I’m 6’2” & when I stand under the tailgate it’s a bit snug, I’ve noticed that I can push the tailgate further open by an inch or 2 . This makes a world of difference. Is there a way to get the car to open to it’s maximum hight?
Also I’ve found that if you leave the tailgate open for a while it will automatically close, I don’t like that as it’s nearly whacked me on the head twice while I’m loading the car.

The manual describes how to set the opening height.

Open tailgate to max then hold the lock/close button on tailgate for more than 3 seconds
Be careful in low carparking spots like underground carparks or tailgate will hit the roof.

As per nu11eaf's instructions below, you can set the height at which the tailgate opens to.

In terms of auto closing, I've never been aware of this feature and have left my boot open for prolonged periods of time, never seeing it close automatically. Are you sure this isn't the foot operated opening/closing which you are accidentally triggering while loading the boot?

Re auto close ... the first time it happened my foot might have been under the car , the 2nd time my wife & I were standing a good 2 feet from the car talking about something & all of a sudden the tailgate came down, as women do she got a fright , I put my hand up to stop the tailgate.

I’ve gone out to the car with the engine running, opened the tailgate, pushed it further up pressed the open button (on the tailgates for a few seconds until it beeped.
Closed & opened the tailgate, no difference. Tried it a couple of times.

I agree, it sounds like the foot operated switch activating the closing, I often leave my tailgate open for a prolonged period while unloading while caravaning and it never closes, after a while the car turns power off and power operated towbar will not retract until car woken up again by opening a door or closing and opening tailgate.

That's a little odd then. If the additional few inches you can get are more than just the bit of play there is in the open tailgate, then I'd start thinking this sounds like something not functioning quite right. How close to a dealer are you, could you perhaps got and compare to similar vehicles? Maybe take a tape measure too?

I've over 6'2" and don't have an issue with the tailgate height on my XC90. I have air suspension and use the setting which lowers the car when parked, still ok for me.

You have to press the lock button on the bottom of the door for more than 3 seconds not the open button
