RE: non starter t5
Knowing the year / model would help.

RE: non starter t5
Can you hear the fuel pump whirr?
Could be the camshaft position sensor? A decent autoelectrician should diagnose it quick. |

1 Can you hear the fuel pump run for about 5 seconds when the ignition is switched on to position II?
2 Learn how to read fault codes here: http://www.volvospeed.com/CheckEngine.htm Post back with the results if you still need help. |

If there's no spark surely it's unlikely to be the fuel pump (although it's a good starting point as it's an easy fault to diagnose).
Where have you checked for a spark? Could it be the distributor? Regards Andy |

If there is no spark, then (provided leads and dizzy is sound) it can only be the ECU, Crank Sensor or Cam sensor.
Good luck

RE: non starter t5
Turned out to be the cam sensor when my car did the same thing last year. I cant remember if it brought the engine fault light on though.

RE: non starter t5
Guy in Volsa in Derby told me that 850/70's were notorious for Cam and Crank Sensor faults. He also said that it was not unknown for them to fail and NOT trigger a lamber light, and on occasions fail and not come up as a fault when you interogate the ECU.
The Crank Sensor is circa £35 and the cam sensor circa £100. If there are no faults showing, but no spark and you are confident that obvious stuff like coil, leads, dizzy etc. are sound then I know what I would try and change first! Let us know how you go on.

The cam sensor is the most common one to fail and is £114 from Volvo, £80 from Andrew Page motorfactors and about £20 from the states.
