RE: Difference between 850T5 and T5R
Hi twinturbo,
I'm assuming what you mean is upgrading the power only to the same as a T5-R? If so, there's little point upgrading bhp from 225 to 250 when a RICA or similar remap can increase power considerably more than this. Do an advanced search on any of RICA, BSR, chip, upgrade, remap and you should find some more info. Be warned though, some of the threads deteriorated into a battle of the suppliers - hurling insults back and forth. If what you're getting at is how to upgrade your whole car to a T5-R then by the time you'd bought the full interior, cruise, climate, elec seats, bigger turbo, manifold and downpipe etc etc etc but then again maybe not) you may as well have sold your T5 and bought a T5-R. Oh, one other thing, this may be better placed in the performance section.

Frankly - by the time you've bought the full T5-R interior, cruise, climate, elec seats, bigger turbo, manifold and downpipe etc you may as well keep your T5 and buy a T5-R on top!!!

RE: Difference between 850T5 and T5R
Hmmmm, T5-R ECU for £100. Could be a bargain but then again, I'm unsure if it's directly compatible. As far as I'm aware there are differences in the engine but then again, only minor ones. I'm sure Adam could advise more accurately.
Do you know the person flogging the ECU? Do you know why they're selling it? Regards Andy |

RE: Difference between 850T5 and T5R
I think T5 and T5R engines are the same. The T5R ecu allows extra boost (250 bhp) for 30 seconds.

RE: Difference between 850T5 and T5R
Simon,
Are the rods not different (stronger) though in order to cope with the additional boost? I know the same could be argued about a RICA but the remap may be set up differently to compensate for the weaker rods in a standard T5. I may be talking complete cow poo here by the way so feel free to correct me (but don't shoot me down - I'm only talking about what I recall) Regards Andy |

RE: Difference between 850T5 and T5R
Andy,
I think it is only the 850R (manual) that has the bigger turbo and stronger engine. Hence the reason it doesnt have the 30 second maximum boost limit of the T5R. But there again the engine code is different for a T5R compared to a T5 so maybe there are some internal differences. Anyone? I'm sure we have discussed this before. Simon |

RE: Difference between 850T5 and T5R
You're right Simon, we have discussed this, only this Month!!!
I'm not going through it all again!!!LOL The T5 and T5R both have a smaller Turbo than the R. The T5 and T5R have a B5234T5 Engine, and the 850R has a B5234T4 Engine. The T4 lump arguably has stronger rods. Dimensionally the Engines are the same. I actually prefer the 15G over the 16T Turbo, but then, I havent finished running my new engine yet, so I may well change my mind!! |
