Default Timing belt !!

Hi the timing belt was changed on my 2005 C70 about 2 years and 8000 miles
Today whilst driving slowly the car lost power and on examination the timing belt was not on the top pulleys but did not appear to have snapped the were some strange sounds from which the local garage said it could possibly be the water pump, pulley tensioner or AC compressor this was a few days before
My question is is it possible that the water pump seized and caused the belts to jump some teeth ? Do you think this is a catastrophic failure or should I just replace the belt and water pump and hope for the best ???

Its highly unlikely to be the water pump. Didn't the garage look into it to see what is broken? It is very likely that there is internal damage too, I hope the garage used genuine volvo cambelt and tensioner back then when replaced. which engine is it?
