Default Belt (fan, not timing)

Hi there

I had my car serviced not long ago, and both timing & aux belts were changed.

When the car is cold (typically in the morning) I notice I'm now getting slight squeak/rubbing noises, tied to the engine rev (slow on idle, increase on throttle up) - which I presume is a belt not 100% straight.

It goes away once the car warms up, so - should I worry about this? (i.e. attempt to straighten the belt) - will it cause undue wear to the belt?

I dont think the belt can go on out of line as it has ridges in it that correspond to ridges on the pulleys. It is also automatically tensioned.

I would give it a squirt of WD40 when its running and see if that helps.

first look at the tensioner wheel whilst the noise is happening, if its jumping around, it means somthing is too hard to turn, like a pump or alternator, if its not jumping around, check both tensionser wheels to see if the bearings are ok.

Tensioner was replaced as well, but might be duff (stranger things have happened). I did fire it up and had a look, but can't see anything (yet). I'll wait till it's cold (tomorrow AM then!) and see

Default Squeaky belt

I had this problem, it was power steering fluid on the belt.

Tonight I took the belt off and cleaned it (and the pulleys) until you could practically see you face in the shine (clutch cleaner & fairy liquid/water).

Put the belt back on and it doesn't squeak any more.

Worth a try.

The problem you are having should be the timing gear rubbing against the plastic cover. Happens sometimes after the belts are changed. Just give the cover a good wack.
