Default Key programming

I purchased a spare key fob on ebay for my S40 58 Reg. I contacted my local Volvo dealership but they don't re-program.

Where can I have this done? I live in Derby.

Thanks

Can I ask you whether the spare key fob you bought on eBay had the original Volvo packaging? If not then as far as I know no one will be able to help you, possibly that is the reason your local dealer said they can not help?

If it does have all original packaging then your local dealer will be able to carry out the programming (which involves a software download to your car), if they refuse then it will be the case of finding another Volvo dealer or a Volvo independent who has the correct Volvo software downloading facilities.

The key fob is a used Volvo key fob.

I local dealership is Stratstone Volvo and they don't do re-programming.

All Volvo main dealers should be able to carry out software programming (I've never heard of one not being able to do this, I am sure it would be a minimum required Volvo standard to be a main Volvo). Are they a Volvo main dealer any more, or are they just an independent? Many Stratstone dealerships have closed down in recent years. (Possibly they are still a dealer for selling cars, but have no workshop facilities at all perhaps?)

As it's a used part then you would need the original packaging for a dealer to even attempt to reprogram it to another car... without this its simply not possible to even try. I am unsure if a second hand one can even be reprogrammed at all even WITH the packaging (we have never tried it here) and I would imagine its quite unlikely in all honesty.

Sorry I can't be more positive here.

That used to be the case , but have you looked at any new keys packaging?
Any 16 or 8 digit codes?
One i observed the other day didnt need any , you could add a second hand one , now this COULD have been the keyless entry type , i wish i had found out at the time .
So what is the situation with a brand new key now , codes on the packaging or not , keyless or not?

Yes stratstone volvo no longer exist .

I got a new key a few weeks ago and according to the Volvo dealer the new key came with a key code. This was for keyless drive 2008 S40 SE LUX 2.0D.

I don't really take too much notice in all honesty and supply what is required, but all the keys I have ever seen have got codes in the packaging. I am interested in what you have said so I will keep my eyes open and check to see if any are supplied without the code in the future.
