Default S40 1.6D2 ES 2010 - rattle/creaking noise

Hi

I've seen the threads on S40 noise & silicone on the velvet door trim - but didn't solve it!

been back to the dealers twice on this issue - but still not solved.

It's fine on smooth surfaces - but bumps cause a rattle - seems to be coming from around the seatbelt mounting/rear C pillar/back door.

dealer has tried new rear door seal.

I tried spary the rear seat mounts with silicone & also the pastic trim/overlap joints , door locks etc - still get the rattle.

Can anyone suggest a solution - apart from turning up the radio?

I get a little bit of noise from the drivers seat on our rattly roads, and need to spray the runners and mechanism with silcone spray. May work, shall have to wait and see.

Cool Re-sit door hinge?

I had a similar problem with the drivers door on my S40 (07) and the dealer decided the best option was to re-sit the door on the hinge. Not sure exactly what or how hey did it but the rattle was gone! Good luck!

I have the same annoying rattle/buzz with my V50 right in my ear from somewhere around the drivers door. Stops when you lean on the window. Dealer lubricated window and door seals but no better, the disappointing thing was they couldn't hear the rattle when I took it in but it drives me mad.

I've had the same issue since I bought the car and I've also had the difficult job of trying to convince the dealer is exists - sadly, I've come to the conclusion that I'm probably just going to have live with it - silicon everywhere hasn't helped!

It's a real shame because the car's otherwise brilliant.

Hi

Thanks for the replies.

My cars been in twice & the second time the service manager did hear the noises.

They packed various items, new rear door seal - but no success!

Not cured as yet - I have siliconed it, tried it with the back seat down, rear headrest off, door locks sprayed, taken the warning triangle off the boot lid, made sure the spare wheel is tight in the well, that the jack & socket key are not rattling etc - no joy.

It is lovely car to drive - apart for that noise - here goes for a third time.

If no joy after this - its a letter to Volvo!

Update on the creaks!

Very helpful technician at the Volvo dealership took all the plastic drivers side trim off & fitted a self adhesive velvet type strip at each of the overlapping joints - seems to help - but still getting like a cable rattle or something similar from the B pillar area.

Anyone else had this & had the seatbelt unit replaced?
