Thumbs up Dead ignition

Hi. Hope this assists someone else in the same predicament. Apologies if it's appeared before.
I went down to the car this morning for work, pressed the keyfob to get in, no probs, door opened, dash info showing. Put the key in the ignition, turned it, nothing! I tried the spare key with the same result.
AA Homestart came to it, looked suitably bemused, tried disconnecting the battery, then reconnecting it (reboot?) - still dead.
He then consulted his laptop and came up with a solution passed on by a Volvo dealer somewhere. Insert the key, pull it out a fraction, then give the key a smart tap back in to "shock" the system. Hey presto - the car started.

you need a new ignition switch , don't neglect it or you really will be stranded somewhere one dark rainy night in the winter in the middle of nowhere ! No software just screw a new one in after removing the dash undertray , radio and centre panel , instruments and prising the dash back a bit

Thanks Clan. I was advised that this was temporary, and obviously I am not happy with sharp taps on what should be sensitive switches. I have booked it into Tyn Lon at Llanfairpwll for this weekend. Hopefully they will also sort out red hot left hand side aircon, whilst rhs is manfully trying to keep the car at reasonable (male) temperature.
