Default wheel rubbing

hi all

Done a search for my problem but cant find anything on it.

My problem is that i got two new tyres fitted to my Volvo S60 T5 MY 52 amd before and after fitting new tyres my wheels didnt rub on full lock at all. Then i got some new wishbones fitted on both sides along with left strut and shock and only right strut top as shock and strut fine. Then i got my wheels aligned using 4 wheel laser alignment and now got the dreaded wheel rubbing issue on the left side when i use a bout 3 quarters lock the wheel rubs on the inner arch and on full lock actually scrapes alot. Went back the garage where i got my alignment done and told him he said my camber was out and needed adjusting.

What i realise was the two values for alignment on front wheels were not equal but garage said they in mancf tolerances, but i think with the values not equal i am getting the dreaded rubbing issue, i adiscussed with the garage at great length but he was adamant it was my camber, he could adjust for a further £30, so what i want to know, is the garage right is it my camber or is it his aligning that which is out.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Eggie

did the new wishbones have the "lock stops" already fitted? and if not, were the old ones swapped over.

I had the same problem on my V70 when I fitted new wish bones.

The old lock stops, although the right ones for the tyres (18.7mm for a 225/45/17 tyre) were worn, with a deffinate flat spot. I fitted new stops and the problem was fixed.

P.S Ive since noticed that you cound just swap the lock stops over e.g. left to right, right to left and this would have the same affect as fitting new ones.

P.P.S make sure you have the right stops for the width of tyre fitted

Sorry I don't know the answer to your wheel rubbing question but just wanted to say are you sure you're happy with having a new shock on one side and a used one on the other? It's going to really compromise the car's ability to stop in an emergency or make a sudden swerve around something.

hi all

thanks for all your replies i'm not sure if the garage swapped my lock stops over so will have to check but then if they missed the stops out then i would have the problem on both sides.

To complicate matters further i got a second opinion from Bosch fitting center
he did the computer laser tracking using a different piece of kit more like satellite antenna sticking out from all 4 wheels he came to the conclusion that it was my toe that out out and not my camber. so he corrected the toe in and the problem is some what better.

but the original garage was shocked to see the results he got from the laser tracking he used and said if i had a bad accident, i said no the car car clean with full history , i know as i used two different sites for Hp checks and see if it was written off both clean inc HPI check site.

So know its got me thinking if the original owner had the toe in setting actually toe out so the wheels didnt rub inside the arch. so instead of the wheels toe being straight the wheels were were toeing out to compensate for the wheel rub.

Now if i was to do that and get the front to toe out so cure the wheel arch rub, would the car's safety be compromised ? meaning car safe to drive and also would i wear my tyres down quicker? i know the car wouldnt drive in a straight line but would cure the wheel rub issue.

Any help and hints appreciated

Thanks
