Filled up today - 28.25mpg on mostly urban short trips, from cold.
Before filling I shoved in the BG44k. Will report back. Would still love some more advice from other folk on what to be checking next. Perhaps my expectations are too high. It's as slow as an old dog. Maybe they all are? |

28 mpg is pretty good considering how cold it's been, I get just over 36 on a long run but I'm in a similar ballpark with shorter journeys from cold, I'm in a 2.0 petrol manual at the moment, the t4 is awaiting a heart transplant.

Cheers. Im not too worried about the mpg. I am more worried about how slow this thing pulls away from a standstill. Its lethal.

0-60 takes 14 or 15 seconds.

The specified 0-60 for a 1.8 auto according to parkers is 11.1 seconds, so given the cars age you're not far away really, plus official figures always seem to be a little optimistic anyway.

Anyone else think I should change the fuel filter?
I've not run the fuel cleaner through yet. Maybe that's first step? Is there anything simple I can check on the auto gearbox to diagnose any obvious problems that would limit pull away acceleration, especially when cold? Back in the engine, should I be looking at ICV and MAF, or camshaft alignment. I'm bamboozled on where to start. This thing is only worth a few hundred quid, so I'm not going to be throwing garage labour at it. I'm handy enough with a socket set, but I'm not going to be stripping down the head, PCV or other such major surgery. Ancillaries etc I can take apart, diagnose etc. Anyone got any advice? thanks |
