Charging Interupted

Evening all,

Has anyone else with a T8 had issues with charging? I'm using a Mode 2 GB plug connected to the car and single power socket in the garage. After a period of charging I get an error notification in VoC as well as single red flashing LED on the cable charger indicating a problem.

It could be the socket I guess, but as this is only going to be a temporary solution I don't fancy running a new one. Ultimately I'm going for a dedicated charging point.

Yes - I’ve had this, but only when charging at the in laws when I used a low quality household reel extension!

You’ll be trying to draw more current than your circuit can accommodate, the charger trips out readily in these circumstances. Is it a long radial circuit or spur or perhaps a lower capacity cable (1.0 or 1.5mm2?) The best thing is to lower the amp setting on the charger and see if that works.

For remote changing I’ve successfully used a 2.5mm2 caravan 25m commando lead, for which I made fly leads to take it back to standard 13a plug and another to 16a Schuko plug for holidays, the fly lead for the other end has a waterproof single trailing socket. We’ve used this arrangement very well for daily charging at holiday gites, relatives etc. You may be able to rig up something similar and bypass your current charging circuit and plug in directly at your house, if it’s only a temporary measure?

I might take the cover off the socket and see if it is anything obvious. In theory it is a very short run as the consumer unit is directly opposite the socket in the garage, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is well connected. Taking the cover off should mean I can see if it is part of the ring or spurred.

Mine stopped charging completely which turned out to be a faulty charging unit in the car, your's doesn't sound as bad so hopefully not that. Is there another location you can try charging it, even for a few minutes to see what it does?

Have you tried charging it else where? using same lead etc.?

I know I tried using my pod point lead type 2, with another type 2 lead connected to extend the overall length, and the car was having non of that
