Default Reverse Camera Install

I have decided to retro fit an Awesafe 7" SatNav to supplement the installed antique version. It comes with a reverse camera that connects to the Awesafe Unit and switches on automatically when selecting reverse. Where is the best / safest place to install the camera unit and what is the best route for the cables, or would it be prudent to get someone to install it for me? Can you recommend anyone decent to get this job done?

on my V70, i installed mine on the drivers right hand side over the headlight switch, the switch is never used so no harm for me, its in a good position so its easy to look from camera to o/s mirror and its down and out of the way, its mounted using the o/s vent... probably not for everyone mind...

Installation was easy as my boot panels come away easily, I routed it via the floor trims (below the door ways), easy enough to tuck under as opposed to removing those trims, could be different for yours though, I found that doing it that way would be far simpler than removing the trims for the headlining and routing via the roof

FWIW, this is my camera installation, I ditched the supplied bracket, and used a simple strip of thin alloy, double sided tape, and trapped it behind the number plate. The wires shared the number plate light route into the boot area. The camera is actually wireless, so no long cables to ‘lose’.

Edit: whichever way I upload a photo, it always turns sideways, but hopefully you ‘get the picture’ (see what I did there?)

Personally I'd be looking at a number plate light camera, I've recently fitted this to my wifes car, very unobtrusive.

Something like this...

Do you have a pic of it installed? Looks good, is the bracket clear plastic?

I did the number plate version and ran the cables through the arm on the o/s, you do have to make a hold in the grommet though as there's no way the cable will go through. Also bear in mind that if the satnav is sited in the middle/bottom of the windscreen, ya can get nobbled for it as it impedes the vision, many do it and seem to get away with it, but for the sake of points and a fine........

I'll take a pic when I'm back home, it's not a Volvo but you'll get the idea.

The one I ordered came with a small 5mm connector so it was fed through the grommet easily tbf.

This is the actual one from Amazon for less than £30 (wife's car is a Hyundai)

Isn’t the 12mm connector fairly standard, though? My first camera, with 12mm ones, didn’t have very bright LEDs, it was easy to find a replacement, and no problem either time to feed it through.

Seems to be solving a problem that didn’t really exist, IME.
