Default Crush Washers

Hi

Fairly new to wielding some spanners on my newish to me, 940 2.0 Turbo Wentworth.

Have a leak on my turbo to manifold and turbo to downpipe, that means I'm going to have to pull the turbo off.

Just ordered load of parts for the job, and seems there are 3/4 banjo fittings that need 2 crush washers on each one. Sods law there are a couple of sizes, and not cheap from supplier.

Obviously loads of other areas where crush washers are needed, just wondering if it would be a good idea in future to get an assorted box of crush washers so I have to hand when perhaps needed, and also would be way cheaper.

Slight concern regarding quality if sourced on EBay or similar, but then you'd think a crush washer should be much the same as long as dimensions match.

Appreciate anyone's thoughts if to stick to usual suppliers or go rogue!!

Cheers
Steve

a "ponder"

yes in Theory a crush washer should be a crush washer regardless of who made it,
reality, it does depend on the materials used For the crush washer for That particular application
theory says "they should do the job", which from a reputable brand from a reputable supplier they would

random box of random sizes from unknown seller via the bay of fleas,,,

there is also the "sods law" of assortment boxes
you get Lots of the sizes you don't need, couldn't fit anything on your car but are worth keeping in case they fit the next car , and few of the sizes you do need

it may sound daft, but checking the part prices with a main dealer might be a nice surprise or "i need a sit down"

When I needed a couple of rubber O rings for my car I found the Volvo dealer to be quick and reasonably priced for a part that I knew was going to be the correct fit.
Other than the Sump Plug I'm struggling to think of where I've needed a crush washer.

I have various boxes of assorted sizes of O rings, copper washers, fibre washers, crush washers and others, and yes, sod's law dictates I never have one of the correct size.

For anything on the Volvos I just get the correct ones from the dealer, even at exorbitant prices they are only pennies each in the grand scheme of things. Like wise with the Mini, I just get them from BMW.

Hi

Many thanks for the comments, most interesting and think I'll just need to get a general stock of things like these as a backup.

Only reason for even thinking of this, was that I have 940 2.0 Turbo with small leak at both joints between manifold/Turbo and turbo/front pipe, needed sorting and for genuine Volvo 7 studs nuts washers and crush washers to remove Turbo = £182+ .....

I had to sit down, and now look forward to this job over Xmas, oh joy😀

Cheers
