I think he means a sort of washer with tines that would grip into the splines.

I'm not 100% sure by my impression was that the arms are not splined, they are soft. Splines are made by the splines in the spindle.

I have run mine smooth by not tightening them enough then tried to wipe with too much snow. After giving them a clean out and retighening they have worked fine ever since.

I'm guessing the wiper ar⅘m socket is aluminium so a soft non ferrous metal.

This thread was brought to a happy conclusion thanks to Lakes Autos in Bedford, and also to Dave at Koping Motors here in Dublin who suggested them. I shall say nothing about Spirit Motors, which is a great favour to them..

Correct, it's very soft and goes onto a steel spindle. Did the job for 25 years.. just a shame they're now out of production.
