Alarm LED and alarm not working
Hi all,
I have recently got a S40 XS 1.8 Auto. The "LED for immobilizer and alarm' with the speaker on the dashboard is not working (i.e it never lights up at all) - therefore it does not flash as it is supposed to I get the 2 * indicator light flashs when ‘opening’ doors, but NONE when closing/locking doors doors (doors just lock) No alarm sounds when inside and locked or bonnet opened etc. Everything else is working fine (so I was ruleing out fuses) Any suggestions? Thanks Ben |

On my 1998 V70, if I haven't shut all the doors firmly then I don't get the indicators flashing on lock, however I would always get the indicators flashing twice on unlock.
My drivers door and boot are always the culprits. My guess one be one of the contact sensors has got dirty. Hope this is of help. TnF |

Thanks.
I assume the door switches are the same as the internal lights? These seem to work ok. I can't find the boot switch but the boot light goes out. I gave the bonnet contact a clean and I think it should work, but don't know. I shall do a few tests. Would not the LED light anyway? Or does the LED only flash if the locking 'indicator' flash has happened first? |

Sorry, cannot be of any help but just to say that my 1999 V40 SX has just the same problem.
2 flashes when unlocking 0 flashes when un-locking ( but it does lock ) and the small led on the dashboard does not flash at all. The symptoms do seem the same as yours Ben so maybe a common fault ? Does anyone know a cure please ? |

I looked at my bonnet contact today and I thin kI have it working...I think trignflo is on the right track.
I opened the bonnet, pressed the contact there with my finger to hold it in, then locked the car with my keyfob (the driver door lock is sometimes sticking but it worked fine this time). I the indicators also flashed, and the LED started flashing, and so I waited for a min. When I took my finger off the alarm when off. I also got lots of flashes from the LED when I switched on the ignition. So far so good. So I fiddled with the contact at the front - basically pulled the metal bit so it was higher. Shut bonnet and locked the car - Single flash. And opening the door caused alarm to go off, as did sitting in the car! And the LED flashes as it is supposed too. So check all your contacts especially the bonnet. So thats the alarm sorted - Thanks for the hint. I now have a slightly sticky driver knob (the car doesn't lock sometimes) but I expect I can fix that. |

Glad that it works now, just got to actually clean my switches now and not rely on slamming the drivers door!

It took me a while but I eventually found that the bonnet contact is a tiny metal strip in the bonnet lock mechanism.
I held the catch down as BENSHADE described and - it works. The alarm now works perfectly. It has never done this whilst I have owned the car. Thankyou very much indeed to TRIGNFLO and BENSHADE and thanks to this forum. regards, martinv |
