I need some help lads. So I have the done the E46(halogen H7) retrofit and have achieved what appears to me as the perfect alignment (vertical/horizontal/rotational). However, the hot spots with halogen bulbs seem to be too pronounced and there isn't enough throw into the periphery, therefore the output isn't uniform, as seen in the picture.

Would fitting a relay harness be enough to do a safe HID retrofit? Would the H7 Chinese bulbs be much of an improvement over the halogens? Has anyone already done this and could share his/her opinion on whether it's worth doing?

From post 14.
Any use?

I got the retrofit lab replacement H7 projectors and put my Volvo lenses in them - this seemed to be the best 100% MOT compatible option for halogen cars.

The retrofit labs projectors on their own improved the brightness a lot, but the light pattern was too tightly contained - putting the Volvo lenses in restored a nice shape to the beam.

Hello Iain,

I was under the impression that the lenses from pre facelift models are bad for the light output and thus I have not attempted to fit it. I might just try it anyways at some point.

However, given the fact that these projectors were made to be fitted with HID bulbs, I thought it might be the best option.

pre-FL lenses are BAD, dont use them. Frosted design didnt work well, thats why those were changed to clear versions.
You did e46 conversion with new aftermarket H7 projectors yea? Those should be perfectly OK to be used with H7 halogen bulbs as-is, no need to fiddle with lens swaps. Do you have pic of that hotspot problem?
also - pic you used in example is I THINK pic of facelifted OEM version (if a volvo at all) - your cutoff on new projectors will be much sharper and step is much smaller.
also - did you set the shutter correctly? That bi-xenon flap has an adjuster that makes cutoff less or more blurry, did you set it up?

edit - as for chinese h7 "xenons" - yea, output will be far far better, I have driven on that setup for a year - you can gain a LOT but you need a serious preparation beforehand (wiper motor failure etc etc, read all about it). Once all this is sorted, using h7 xenon burners is no problem, thats what those projectors were designed for. You may only need to shim bulbs in some cases as those are not so precisely made so sometimes your hotspot is really off...
