I need to take it in for a software update. It also sometimes decides to be smooth and other times jerky, I don't know what might influence the changes.

you should have had the software updates on the service if it was a volvo dealer . They know the complicated procedure to carry out to help your problem , it may be just adaption or new main shaft seals behind the torque converter in the gearbox .

The old xc90 pipes are different , the hard plastic one under the engine from turbo to intercooler can come off the turbo mainly due to the pipe's plastic retaining brackets being broken , this can cause the red silicon seal on the turbo end to break .

Cheers clan. There really is not alot online about them having boost leaks so I guess I'm lucky! I smoke tested it but came back with only slight leaks on the intake(which I sorted) .

The 2018 service was a Volvo dealer when it got worse, but this year I had it done at a local independent. I've got access to old VIDA 2014D and the adaption seems to help, but not completely cure it, so unless another software upgrade will fix it, perhaps those seals need doing. Any rough idea how much that job costs?

I thought I'd found the issue with the lower intercooler hose as it had what felt like a small RIP where the hose was tight against a mounting bracket. After removing it and fitting a new one it looks like it wasn't 100% though but still wise to change it.After spending hours checking pipework and the intercooler the hiss is still there at low rpms when coming on boost and after getting a second opinion on the performance I now know it's down on power/torque .Its edging towards a set of turbos by the look of it which I'll be mighty annoyed at! Should have stuck to my trusted 2005 xc

Done that Clan and had it smoke tested but nothing comes up.I wonder if it only shows up under hard boost and that's why the smoke test was ok. I do wonder if it's some of the hard plastic pipes connecting the turbos as there is oil misting around there and it only manifests itself up to about 2300rpm.
I'm now buying Vida/Dice to try to help matters as my Auto-com and snap-on only show so much. Its a real shame as its spoiling a nice car and I only have so much patience before it will get punted.I was looking forward to taking it to Volvo for the polestar map but at this rate its pointless

After now buying vida now taken the car for a hard run.Putting the actual vs desired boost on a live graph I can see the boost isnt too far off from what's desired but takes a little longer to reach target but oddly sometimes wont make target? What also puzzles me is I noticed my coolant temp seems to run low and seemed to drop while idling in my drive(without the fans on) .Could a stuck thermostat cause issues for it (I cant even see the damn thing!!)

boost
many years ago i had a t5 it lost boost etc when hot-fairly new car about 3 yrs old too
i worked out the coolant temp or stat were at fault and replaced both[iirc at the same bit/area of the engine] a bit different with these new t/t cars but same principle-if your fuel consumption /mpg is low this would be an indicator also-stats on diesel staying open= higher fuel consumption |
