Horn Problems
How do I diagnose and repair horns on a 1968 122S Wagon with "bow tie" steering wheel (the same as used on the 140 series)?
Thanks, K |

Kirk;
Is your vehicle equipped with a relay or not...that's the first thing you must answer, and it will determine how you proceed with troubleshooting ...if no relay is present, horns have (IGN) power and contact in St wheel makes circuit to chassis (-). if equipped with a relay, st wheel only completes circuit for relay (so you should hear it clack when activating st wheel switch with IGN ON ...IF every thing on input side of relay is OK). See also (this article is slanted toward earlier non relay systems with older st wheels, but gives some usable info for both layouts because I do recommend upgrading to a relay setup where current being controlled by contacts in st wheel is minimum relay current and NOT full horn load current): http://www.sw-em.com/hornupgrade.htm Good Hunting |

Do you have the wire running through the steering column? Check it's not broke, mine was.
