Default Your Help Please

I have been offered a V40 T4 1.8 (200bhp) on a V plate, in fantastic condition both in and out. 142000 miles, cambelt changed at 125,000 and serviced by Volvo regularly. Guy wants £900 for it, does this seem reasonable for a car of this age and mileage?

Cautious this time as bought a s**t heap S40 T4 not that long ago and lost lots of money on it!!

Do you know the exact model? Is it a 1999 or a 2000 registered car?

It's a '99. Is there anything I should be looking for with it?

If its a '99 model, its not a bad price (even better if its a 2000). To be honest, the 2.0lt model is supposed to be much better than the 1.9lt model.

I can't seem to find a 2ltr at a reasonable price - the 1.9ltr does shift well though I take it?

Any known faults with them etc?

Not sure of any common faults on them. I had a P2 T4 for while, and it was a great car while i had it. Smooth, quiet, rock solid, and boy did it shift,,,ooops, sorry, starting to sound all nerdy there.

I recently had a 2002 S40 T4 was fantastic for speed just kept stalling on me so had to get rid of it! :-( Hoping a V40 T4 will be just as quick.

Well, if you do decide to buy it, i think the V40 is just as fast as the S40, and i hope its a good 'un for you.

......just bare in mind people sell cars at these ages as there is money that has to be spent on them!!.....the 1855cc is the better of the two turbos with the forged pistons.........don`t get carried away with a V40 round corners as it will carry YOU away they are heavier on the back because of the extra metal ........my S40 GDI would go round corners on the door handles but not this V40 even with larger tyres and wheels as standard......if you don`t need an estate go for the saloon again they are quicker off the line as well.....

I can confirm the V40 is just as quick as the S40, as my first T4 was a 2001 S40 T4, and I have just got my 2nd one a couple of weeks ago 52 reg V40 and its as quick as the S40 and to be honest don't notice a massive difference in the handling, the phase 2's are nicer inside look a bit more modern so if you could stretch to by a phase 2 I would, but there's not many about I waited about 5 months to find a decent T4 but I'm glad I waited as the one I got is only 66k, only 3 previous owners and pretty much mint apart from a few tiny dents (nothing for a 9 year old car), just make sure and try the car from cold, check for smoke on start up and when your booting it, and check the oils a nice colour both under the oil cap and on the dipstick, from what I've seen they're pretty bullet proof, oh and check the lower radiator hose, I got my mechanic to check mine when I got the timing belt done and it was just about shot, fell off when he lossened it..
