Default engine system service following oil change

Hi All,
I have had the engine system service message come up following an oil change, due, I believe, to overfilling, oil level was up to max. I have removed oil and the level now sits just between 1/3 and 1/2 way between maximum and minimum and the message won't clear, I have a Bluetooth Odb reader and there is one fault code P250a which the software lists as an oil level issue, I have tried, without success, to reset but it wont clear. The message has been up for over a week and I have driven in excess of 400 miles, the car is driving normally. Does anyone have any suggestions why the code won't clear, do you think its worth dropping the oil and refilling?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Chris

The code may not clear due to using a generic OBD reader.

You'll need someone or a dealer to hook Vida up to the car and do it properly.

Being on the forum and Facebook pages I'm finding that a lot of generic readers aren't able to see all codes or erase the ones they can see.

Do you mean a service due warning, as that is just a total miles based warning for when the next service is due. Look in your owners handbook for info on how to reset.

The warning code could be a real old one of no significance if the oil level is correct.

Thanks, unfortunately it's not the routine service indicator. The code my obd reader is giving is the oil level code, I know there were no stored codes prior to the oil change.
Can anyone recommend someone with Vida in or near Swansea. I won't use FRF.

This used to happen to me until I told my garage to put no more than 6 litres in my old D5 at oil changes. If the problem is just the oil level, I'd expect the warning to be clearing itself any time soon. It takes a certain number of journeys without the fault being present before it decides there is no longer a problem (although I believe the code is still stored, just not current).

If the message still won't go of its own accord, it would sound tempting to look at the oil level sensor in case it's providing a false reading. However I think your instinct is correct to go for a VIDA scan. There are other codes in the ECU that also produce the ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED message and I understand that many of them don't correspond to standard OBD, so a generic reader can't retrieve them.

Best of luck
