I've always used Volvo independant garages, I had a good choice when I lived in Glasgow Voltch and Volvomax, both brilliant used volvo parts but were a lot cheaper than a Volvo dealerships. Now I managed to find a good local volvo specialist in Newcastle so I use them now.
As an example got a price for a service on my C30 D3 from volvo was about £220/240+vat, same service using genuine volvo parts, same service schedule from the the local Indy £114+vat, same with the V60 quoted £210+vat on an offer for a just a basic service from volvo, went to the local indy £195 + vat for the same basic Service and the Aux belt change. Unless its under warranty I really don't see the point in using a main dealer, even then most warranty allow you to use non main dealer garages as long as genuine parts are used. Dealers generally take a bigger mark up on the parts & fluid and have a much hire hourly rate, sure the indy I use is anout £45 an hour and volvo can be £100+ an hour Last edited by scoobysn7x; Dec 11th, 2018 at 17:51. |

Don't forget to factor in the free years Volvo Roadside Assistance and Recovery Europe wide included with the Main Dealer service.

Was quoted £401 at main dealer, I complained as I thought it was expensive and they knocked 25% off
Contacted my local Indy garage and got quoted £150..... No Brainer |

Also with the breakdown cover.
If you are insured with Aviva and take out their breakdown cover you will have a nice surprise. I have 2 cars on the policy and I am covered if me or my partner are travelling in any car, this is breakdown and recovery within the UK by the way as we don't take the car abroad. £3.36 per month, or £40.32 per year.

If I still have the car when the warranty runs out it's a no brainer. Oil and filter change for around £50 and keep receipts for a future owner, no brainer.

Very true. I assume its then a case of occasionally taking your car to Volvo for the desired updates.

Just booked my 4 year service, Volvo sent me a note that 4+ services and other work now have a 10% discount on parts, MOT and labour.
Still expensive, but I reckon a main dealer service history makes the car worth more than the difference between that and independents. £100 saved, but £500 lost? |

My experience of main dealer servicing (no Volvo experience as yet) is pretty damn poor. I never put my last car in without there being some sort of problem. |
