I have to give you this: these small bl**y springs that hold shoes..
They are tricky.. Also my little dilemma is sorted: I removed old pagid shoes, and fitted new pagid shoes.. At least I know that it had shoes changed at least once in its 17years life..

Done. Test drive.
And kick in the back with getting new tyres- just found out another rim has a crack, have to top up air weekly.. Luckily I have 3 spare rims, so I just need to get decent tyres..

Did you just change the shoes, or fit adjusters also?
Another post about fitting adjusters on the XC90 page: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showp...48&postcount=8 |

Just changed my rear pads, rotors, handbrake shoes and all springs - horrible job, especially getting the springs back on.
During the work I found that my offside handbrake cable was very stiff, stopping the shoes from retracting and so remaining against the drum. This had worn a lip inside the drum part of the disk, making getting it off a two hour job. As I did not have new cables, I disconnected the old ones and sprayed silicon down in the sleeves while working the cable back and forth (I did both sides just to be thorough). This seems to have solved the problem (shoes no longer rubbing on drum), although I read elsewhere that this may not be a permanent solution. Anyone else done this? Did the problem return meaning you had to later replace the cables? I am hoping the problem is fixed but if not - how long I should leave it before replacing the cables. |

My handbrake wasnt very good even when I pulled the handbrake on hard it would not hold on a hill. I thought it was brake shoes. Having bought some OE shoes I decided I wasn't going to do it myself. I took it to a local garage who told me cable seized and using proper ramp took him a few hours due to it being seized. Total cost for this job brake cable and shoes fitted £120 with him supplying cable. He did say it was a battle and took hime around 4 hrs so I can imagine if I would have done it on my drive I would have got stuck and very cold. I think money well spent so my advice replace cable as well. Mine is a pleasure to use now,
