Default XC90 gearbox problem

Hi,
My 2012 XC90 sometimes has a hard gear change in 1st gear. It almost jumps into first gear from a standing start (when warm) and also jumps back in 1st when reducing speed. There is also a whirring sound (like a binding nose) when the car is first started. This goes away after 5 mins. I would like to know how to fix.... any advice will be welcome. Thank you.

What model is it and how many miles has it done?

Have you ever done an oil change?
Have you ever reset the adaptations?
Have you read the fault codes?

I would change the gearbox oil and don't let any garage tell you that it is not recommended.

Thank you for your replies.

Haven't read a fault code as management light is not up. I'll read it to check.

How hard is it to change the oil and reset the adaptations (is it a garage job)....

I much prefer the sound of that rather than a new box.

Has anyone had experience of this working?

Changing the gearbox oil is pretty straightforward and as for the adaptations, although desirable, you can actually get away without doing it.

Changing the oil is the starting point with this issue and you MUST ensure that you only put the correct spec oil in for your model year car.

It should be in the handbook.

Although a different car, the gearbox oil change procedure will be the same.

Thank you very much for that info.

I'm going to get the oil changed and adaptions reset.
I will let you know how it goes. [GVIDEO][/GVIDEO]

That video does not actually work...

When I did my 2012 xc90 I stuck fresh fluid in, cycles through the gears as per video and then dumped for a much improved colour. Tried the same and left in for About 100 miles and came out black.

Dump and then leave a week or so.

Also it’s east to do yourself without VIDA. I have VIDA but didn’t need it.
