You would be lucky to get any response from the police these days other than a crime number to give to insurance company.

Quite shocking really, I blame the manufactures and Insurance Companies, they could do so much more.

Sadly, regardless of what technology is developed your car will still be stolen. If they cannot defeat the electronics they simply break into your home for the keys/fob or threaten you and your kids at knifepoint for the means to start your car.
Can you imagine a retina scan needed for engine start, they would take an eye.
The only real solution is to have a justice system that works as a deterrent.

These guys can make between £1000 - £7000 per car, not bad for an evenings work.

There's no deterrent for murder so not much chance for car theft.

What is shocking is that 75% ratio is obviously achievable and some of them have 12%. The high recovery ratio would be the main deterrent.

May need to unpick the data, though. 'Recovery rate' doesn't necessarily equate to good detective work - it just means the cars were found. The difference in rate could be affected by the nature of the crime - in some regions car theft might be more about joyriding and use in crimes etc, whereas in other regions it could be more influenced by selling on high-value cars (which would inevitably have a lower recovery rate).

But the gloomy picture might be that the police know that most cars are insured and hence 'prioritise' car theft at the bottom of the heap. Nice to know that some offences are 'more equal than others'...

Shopping around for insurance this week, reasonable quote from respectable insurance co (RSA)...ah they said, your vehicle will attract a mandatory theft excess of £1350, compared to a damage excess of £500, oh and the two excesses are additive (so £1850 theft excess). I live in a sleepy town with the car behind locked gates every night!

Keyless + desirable(ish!) car coming to bite us?

Hi,
As a insurance broker that is not immune to the issues of keyless theft what would you like the insurers to do? We would certain welcome some recommendations / suggestions if you have any.
Regards,
Dan

For a start put pressure on Motor Manufactures to include better security that is hard to disable, especially on cars over a certain value, built it into the car that it cannot be accessed, and just give it a short life span of say 5 years where the values have substantially depreciated.

Give far better Incentives for added security like including trackers etc, and other systems like adding key pass codes.

Even possible set up a body where you track and find the cars High end cars, learn more about where they are going etc, instead of the using Police resources till point of an arrest with information gathered, lets face it you make billions in the insurance industry.

Tbh there is a load of things that could be done, another like on bikes where you have a data tag system, do that on car parts.
