How to add new wire to plug and take out wires?
I'm trying to wire in a second foglight and I'm looking at this connector I need to add a wire to.
To do it properly without just jamming a wire in and forcing it to make a connection does anyone know what type of connector and size etc I need to put a new wire into position 4 (bottom right) of this photo? I have some spade connectors but they won't fit due to the plastic surround, also if I look from the other end there's an orange plastic sort of tab, I don't know if you're meant to be able to somehow pull it down and the wires pop out? Any help would be great, I'm trying to do this properly and not bodge it!

Each pin has a locking tab. Release the tab and the pin slides out

Do you know how I'd make up one of the pins, is it likely just a space connector of a pretty small size or is it a special connector with a name? Thanks.

I now have uninsulated spade (female and male) connectors which will fit in, but I want to take an existing pin out to see if it uses a female or male connector on the end so I know what type of new wire to make up. I still can't manage to get these pins out.
The front of the connector has an orange piece of plastic which I can slide out but this doesn't free up the pins to pull out. I don't want to try too hard, what am I doing wrong?

Hi
look on the new terminals, they might have the locking tab to see how to release. or see photo below and the tab is visible on the middle one in the picture. Usually this tab needs a small tool behind from the open end to bend the tab down to release and then the connector pulls out by the wire. I found it hard to get the correct terminal. A plug from the scrappy would provide wires with terminals that could be cut, soldered and swapped over. Iain Last edited by IainG; Nov 12th, 2018 at 10:00. |

When I did something like this I just went to the local Volvo dealership, spoke nicely with the guy in Parts and he ordered in a new plug body and some 'pins', I can't remember the price because it was close enough to pence or at most a couple of pounds that it wasn't worth remembering, with the right new bits the job was easy. Only caveat is the pins have a barb on them to hold them in the plug so don't try test fitting the new pins to the plug as the little barb bit will stop you taking it back out
