Newbie with loads of s40 ????
Hello All,
Just taken a 1999 s40 1.8i (gdi) se as part exchange on my old bmw, car is in good nick, but i have a few questions... 1. where can I get replacement front mats other than volvo ? 2. where can I pick up a cd changer and is the wiring already their ? 3. am I right in saying the timing belt gets done at 60k ? or is it time bound ? car is coming up for 6 years and has spent the last 3 years on the isle of lewis where it has done 43K and never been into 5th gear.. 4. is it okay to feed it super unleaded ? 5. is it possible to retro fit a front centre armrest ? 6. getting interference on fm radio, is their a capacitor/suppressor fitted anywhere to eliminate this ? 7. lastly I cannot open the bonnet, pull red lever but will not de-latch, have tried pulling cable with pliers, but scared I may rip-off whole dash.. Any help with any questions will be appreciated Thanks Gary... |

RE: Newbie with loads of s40 ????
Cam Belt is changed on these at 60000 miles or 6 years.
Beware of the Sparkplug changes though Volvo originaly stated 60000 miles for these as well but have changed it to 40000 miles now. Mats you can get them through the club web site. CD changer I have been looking on the web sites there are a few around OEM New alpine units seem to be £150-£250 price bracket. Not sure about the connection some people say wires are there I haven't found them but not sure where to look of what to look for. Is the aerial pluged in the back of the radio properly it great on my car no problems anywhere in the country . I've read in a few places the Gdi was developed for the far eastern market and the fuel is richer over there. I tend to run mine on standard unleaded but branded rather than supermarket fuel as after a few fill ups it looses it edge slightly.I did fill it up with Superunleaded once and you felt the results as soon as you left the forecourt. They also need to have a good blast through regularly mine gets pushed towards the red line every day or so to keep the engine from carboning up.I tend to get quite a bit of soot on the tailpipe but its better out than in the engine. 84000 miles and running as new. There have been threads re the bonnet issue in the past on the forum have a look. Speedreedy 1999 S40 Gdi |
