This sounds expensive
Hello,
I have a 2000 V40 T4 (bog standard) which has about 56,000 miles on it and has just started making the most horrendous knocking sound when cold. The knocking increases speed when the revs build and remains for about 2 or 3 minutes until the engine starts heating. The noise gradually gets quieter until it goes completely. It sounds like its coming from between the engine block and the cockpit sort of in the middle of the car (width ways) I have taken it in to my Volvo dealer but unfortunately it was warm when they looked and they didn't hear anything untoward. I wondered whether anyone on here had had a similar problem and could suggest what it might be as I have to wait a week until the garage can take the car back in and I am worried about how expenbsive this is likely to get... |

RE: This sounds expensive
Have someone check the exhaust manifold bolts & nuts to make sure they're all still there and have them re-torqued when the engine is cold.
I had one of the bolts undo itself and fall off and Volvo themselves issued a technical report on this as some bolts were inadvertantly left off at the factory itself. Mine rattled a lot when cold but as it got warmer the manifold expands and hence 're-seals' itself. |
